Description

Subject Matter:

A straw-colored glazed ewer of the Tang dynasty (618-906.) 

Straw-colored glazed wares were made in Henan and Shanxi during the Tang dynasty. This ewer is a typical form from these kilns during this time period.  The glaze applied to the body usually stop short of the base. 

Physical Description:

A tall ovoid stoneware ewer with a wide foot and straight neck, an articulated rim, a short straight ribbed spout placed high upon the shoulder, and a coiled handle extending from the mouth to the shoulder.  It is covered in a straw-colored glaze stopping high above the foot.
