Description

Subject Matter:

In everyday life, Northeastern Woodland peoples often ate from carved wooden bowls and utensils.  Specially carved bowls with human or animal likeness like this one were important items in the spectacular feasts that accompanied religious ceremonies across the Great Lakes region.

Physical Description:

Wooden, approximately oval-shaped bowl with inset brass eyes on one end, making it look like an animal.
