Subject Matter:
This work exemplifies Le Corbusier's lesser-known artworks. While he is widely known as a key figure of modern architecture, he also produced a body of drawings and paintings such as this, that focused on the female figure. In this scene women dress in short dresses and corsets and dance in front of a doorway as though preparing for a night out. Often using his wife Yvonne as a model, Corbusier enjoyed exploring such themes as the crowds of music dance halls and female nudes.
Physical Description:
This work is a drawing of three female figures in an abstract style. The figures are curvaceous and wear short dresses and corsets. The woman to the left has blond hair and is colored with light pinks and white. The two figures to the right are more boldly colored, one in blue and black, the other in green and black dresses. These two women stand in front of a doorway. The floor is colored brown and detailed with black horizontal lines as if to depict wood panels.
