Description

Subject Matter:

Filles Bretonnes belongs to the "Album de la Revue Blanche," a portfolio of prints by artists associated with La Revue Blanche, a periodical of art and literature. The album features works of several members of the Nabis group, but Cottet's work more closely aligns with Realism. It was published in Paris in 1895 by L'Estampe Originale. This print shows women of Breton in traditional dresses, bonnets, and wooden shoes. Cottet spent several months of every year in the community and its people are a recurring subject in his works.

Physical Description:

Five female figures, wearing long dresses, linen caps, shawls, and aprons, stand in clusters against a backdrop of buildings.
