Description

Subject Matter:

Whistler executed a series of views in London that portrayed Houndstitch and other less affluent areas in the working part of London.

Physical Description:

Figrues stand or sit in a narrow passgeway that leads back in space to a dark entrance, beyond which a brightly lit arched entry is visible. The flanking buildings that form the passageway are not described; the focus is on the scattering of figures and the entryway in the distance.
