Description

Subject Matter:

At a time when the ukiyo-e tradition was emphasizing scenes of contemporary life in the urban world, nanga or "southern pictures," inspired by Chinese painting of the Ming and Qing dynasties, offered a retreat into the unhurried world of nature and art.

Physical Description:

There are many flowers and grasses intertwined on the ground. On the left side of the painting, there is a tree trunk with leaves hanging in the air. There are two seals and an inscription in the middle right of the painting. The hanging scroll is bordered with gold.
