Description

Subject Matter:

As part of a portfolio created by the women-led studio "Tiger Lily Press," Foster's work shows the innovative printing styles highlighted in this portfolio. The second group edition, produced at the 4th Street studio of the Press in Cinncinati, was titled "IMAGES" and was a compilation by six artists who self-published, packaged, and distributed the edition to various museum collections, including UMMA. The other artists included in the porfolio were Joan Effertz, Charles Grund, Barbara Young, Mary Mark, and Philippe LeJeune.

Several other of the prints in the portfolio reference themes of feminitity and interepret and question feminine roles in society. Foster's work plays with similar themes, referencing imagery of art nouveau female nudes. By using delicate linework, Foster also foregrounds new values for image making.

Physical Description:

At the center of this print is an image that shows a nude woman lying on her stomach and propped up on her elbows. She is surrounded by various foliage; leaves, grasses, and flowers. The print is numbered, titled, signed and dated in pencil below the plate margin "7/20 Garden II April Foster c 1985".
