Description

Subject Matter:

Centrally composed, this photograph depicts a view looking down through the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. The v-shaped canyon slopes sweep down to the Yellowstone River at the center of the image, which flows away from the viewer into the distance. Alternatively smooth and rugged with craggy bluffs, the canyon walls are sparsely populated with pointed lodgepole pines. The sun’s rays cast the right side of the canyon in shadow, washing the other in radiant light. The warmth of the albumen print beams through the landscape, rendering the majestic scene in sumptuous detail.

Physical Description:

This photograph shows a centralized view looking down into a rocky canyon, a river winding at its bottom into the distance.
