Subject Matter:
Photographed from an elevated vantage point, this photograph depicts a vertical view looking down into the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Snaking in-between the steep, rugged sides of the canyon, the Yellowstone River flows away from the viewer and winds around a bend in the distance. In the foreground, two craggy outcroppings occupy the left and right corners of the image, each supporting scraggily copses of lodgepole pines. Compositionally, these two corners form a symmetrical framing that echoes the shape of the cavernous canyon beyond.
