Description

March 28, 2009
Gilson’s work stems from an aesthetic that combines innovation with technical precision. His rich and varied background in fine art, industrial design, graphic art, as well an interest in auto and aircraft design, influences and informs his work. Having gained prominence in the field of woodturning, Gilson challenged preconceptions about the treatment of the wood’s surface. In Graphics Vase, he creates a play on material by using lacquer to obscure the wood, blending “classic era” design with the type of translucent and iridescent paints used on custom cars to produce a beautiful, dynamic surface.
