Subject Matter:
Saito Kiyoshi often depicted religious, specifically Buddhist, themes in his artworks. In this particular work, he depicts the side profile of a bodhisattva. A bodhisattva is a deity who is able to reach Nirvana but delays it out of compassion to save suffering people. The center of the statue’s face is brighter, creating the illusion of a light emanating from their eyes.

This is a print depicting the head of a statue on a dark background. The head looks to the right and belongs to a bodhisattva. There is a red seal on the bottom right.
