Description

Subject Matter:

This portrait of a young woman features the soft focus typical of the pictorialist movement. The tonal range is subtle, with very little contrast or chiaroscuro on the subject's face and upper torso. The woman wears a light, lacy bonnet. She has a gauzy fabric draped around her lower arms. The fabric is barely visible due to its translucent quality and the soft focus of the camera. The woman looks to the left with a pensive and solemn expression.

Physical Description:

This image is a softly-focused portrait of a young woman wearing a bonnet. She gazes into the distance toward the left side of the frame.
