Description

This head depicts Shiva in his aspect as the perfect ascetic. His long hair, in matted locks, is again piled high on his head, although here he also wears a diadem. A third eye, symbolizing his powers as a seer, is visible on his forehead.
Exhibited in "Divine Encounters, Earthly Pleasures: Twenty Centuries of Indian Art," 12/12/03-2/22/04.
