Subject Matter:

This photograph from the New York Municipal Archives is a print from the Library of Congress collection. The photographer is unknown, though it has been attributed to Hal Morey. The photographer was commissioned by the city to document the building. This is one of several interior images of Grand Central Terminal in the archives. The image depicts an average day in Grand Central Terminal, with four prominent beams of light filtering through a smoky atmosphere. At the bottom of the composition, people move about the main concourse, appearing small in comparison to the the architecture and steams of light.
