Description

Subject Matter:

This drawing of interlacing triangles comes from Riley's most experimental period.  At the end of the 1960s, Riley began experimenting with color in her works.  In drawings, such as Interlacing Triangles, she was interested in placing various colors next to each other.  She sought to explore the optical impacts of these colors weaving in and out and between each other.

Physical Description:

Drawing in pencil and gouache of four triangles. The four along the top alternate orientation, point ing down then up. They are  colored in yellow, lavender, and green. Along the bottom are small pencil sketches of triangular forms and two more painted triangles in darker shades of green, purple, and gold. The artist has signed and titled the work on the left side. On the verso is an inscription R 11-17.
