Description

Subject Matter:

Actor Iwai Shijaku I, also known as Iwai Hanshirō VII, was the oldest son of Iwai Hanshirō V.  He was born in 1804 and died in 1845.

Physical Description:

The woman in this print wears a brown and white striped robe, bordered in blue.  Her sash is blue with orange flowers.  She blocks the top of an umbrella, partially visible at the edge of the panel, with her left hand.  A sword is visible at her waist.  Flowers bloom in branches above her.

This is the left panel of a diptych, of which UMMA has one.
