Jaffa pris des Jardins
Felix Bonfils
Description
Subject Matter:
The city of Jaffa rises beyond a mass of palm trees and other foliage in the foreground, which takes up much of the composition as it presses up against the picture plane. Sunlight bathes the dense cluster of crisp, white buildings that compose the city, an effect which highlights the newness and modernity of this important seaport. The presence of ships along a strip of water in the right background enhances this effect. This image is one of hundreds of photographs made throughout Bonfils' career which purport to document various landscapes, cityscapes, and people of the eastern Mediterranean.
Physical Description:
In this photograph, a city traces the horizon line beyond a dense press of palm trees and other foliage.
