Description

Subject Matter:

This is a storage jar for everyday use made during the Five Dynasties (906-960) period.  These would have been valued by ordinary people because of the practicality of the form.  There were often made along side more refined wares at northern kilns.

Physical Description:

This large stoneware jar with tapered base and wide globular shoulder tapers towards a short flaring neck surrounded by four strap lugs. Wavy lines are incised around the shoulder and body, and the upper three-fourths of the jar is covered in a dark olive green glaze.
