Description
Subject Matter:
This small jar from the Hoi An Wreck bears the depiction of the plum blossom, bamboo, chrysanthemum and orchid, the four plants that were favored by literati in Chinese tradition. This example shows the spread of cultural and poetic themes acoss East and Southeast Asia. Although the theme is identifiable, the images of bamgoo, orchid and plum blossom were depicted less accurately, indicating the kiln's distance from where these cultural objects were originated from.
Physical Description:
A square vase with smooth corners on a large footing and with a semi-wide rim. On on each side of the square in a different flower or plant borderd with geometric patterns leading to the corners. On the top of the vase surrounding the rim are layers of flower petals.
