Description

Subject Matter:

This print depicts Buddha’s face as large and emerging from shadow, creating an almost imposing presence. Buddha’s hand gesture and the title “Jiai Buddha,” however, implies a loving and merciful deity. This image of Buddha is simpler than traditional depictions of the sacred figure, perhaps alluding to the basic lesson of compassion while making it relatable to wider audiences.

Physical Description:

The side-profile of a dark face looking at a hand. The hand is holding up its three middle fingers with the thumb bent down over the pinky finger.
