Description

Subject Matter:

Kava or yaqona (Fijian) ceremonies involve the use of powdered kava root to be mixed in a kava tanoa to create a spiritually freeing drink. This is a shared drink and process across the Pacific and normally takes centre stage at community gatherings, ceremonies, and celebrations. Due to the size of the bowl, it could have been a community bowl.

Physical Description:

A four-footed wooden bowl with a deep bowl and wide, flat lip. A pentagonal shape with two holes sits beneath the lip, giving the appearance of a turtle head.
