Description

Subject Matter:

In this photograph, the lotus capitals which top numerous massive columns—connected by the fragments of stone lintels—signal the remains of the Temple of Kom Ombo. Six men sit or stand near the large stone fragments that formerly composed the walls and roofs of the Ptolemaic-era temple dedicated to the god Sobek. Stark contrasts in tone, from the brightly lit exterior to the dark interior, add visual drama to the image, while the men sitting in the foreground provide a sense of scale.

Physical Description:

A group of columns stands amid a pile of stone debris in the desert.
