Subject Matter:
In this contemporary rendition of miniatures depicting the life stories of the Hindu God Krishna, the blue-bodied Krishna is shown in a pavilion, embracing his beloved Radha. The attendants standing by could be Radhas sakhis (friends/ companions) or other gopis (cowherd girls) who feature prominently in Krishna paintings. The elongated eyes are a distinctive feature of the Kishangarh style of miniature painting.
Physical Description:
In this contemporary miniature, Lord Krishna is shown embracing his lover Radha. A number of adoring attendants watch the scene gleefully. Some sit, others stand, some hold garlands, whereas others look on in contemplation. A pool and fountain are depicted in the foreground, and a white colored palace forms the backdrop of the scene. The setting seems to be an open-air garden or forest-like environment.
