Subject Matter:
La Bourrine aux Cinq z'enfants shows a traditional style home of the Breton region of France and five children in the yard. Bourrine is the name for the thatched homes that are built from local natural resources in the marshes of Vendée, France. Auguste Louis Lepère was a French artist who explored many mediums but consistently depicted the French countryside and life in Paris. He is most well known for wood engravings, his favorite medium.

This print shows a cottage with a thatched roof and five children in the yard. Two are in the middle foreground, one is by a plant to the right, and another sits against the house, and the fifth is working with a shovel on the long side of the building.
