La Marchande de Chiffons, from “Album de la Revue Blanche”
Paul Sérusier
Description
Subject Matter:
La Marchande de Chiffons belongs to the "Album de la Revue Blanche," a portfolio of prints by artists associated with La Revue Blanche, a periodical of art and literature. The album featured works of several members of the Nabis group, to which Sérusier also belonged, and was published in Paris in 1895 by L'Estampe Originale. Sérusier spent a great deal of time in Brittany, France. There he would study the chores of women, a recurring theme in his work. The market in Brittany could have been the inspiration for this piece. This print is visually similar to Sérusier's painting "La Marchande de Bonbons."
