Kanō Tan'yū
Description
Subject Matter:
Similar to many of his other works, Kanō Tan'yū' has a lot of empty space in his pieces. Here he is using the impression of mountains, trails, and buildings to form a picture made out of its bare bones.
Physical Description:
The scroll depicts a mountainous scene. To the upper middle of the painting are three mountain peaks. To the lower right is a steep mountainside and what appears to be buildings. Below that looks to be a trial. In the middle slightly to the left is a dark spot with what could potentially be a tree/forestation. On the far right towards the bottom is an inscription in both black and red ink.
