Description

Subject Matter:

This print, in the synthetic cubist style, shows objects on the counter of a bar in contrasting light and dark geometric shapes. In the upper left quadrant there is a wine list, in the center, a news paper and a bottle.

Physical Description:

This work is an abstract cubist print of objects you might find on a counter including papers, newspapers and bottles portrayed in geometric sections. On the left are parts of a sign reading "vins." Towards the middle another text, reads "Paris". The forms are clustered in the center where there is the heaviest shading. There is a rectangular border drawn around the entire composition and it is labelled with the words "Le Comptoir" in block letters along the bottom edge. The artist's signature and date have also been included in the plate in the lower left.
