Description

Subject Matter:

An ornate, floriated border of blue, red, white frames two columns of Latin blackletter script, and gold leaf featuring a large illuminated initial “S”. This leaf incorporates the use of interlace, which can be observed particularly in the rendering of the illuminated initial. The text is derived from Psalms 68:31 – 69:1-7, indicating that it likely belonged to a Psalter, one of the most popular manuscripts during the medieval period.

Physical Description:

Double-sided illuminated manuscript leaf with two blocks of Latin blackletter script framed by floriated borders of blue, red, and gold leaf featuring interlace and an illuminated initial.
