Description

Julian Stanczak fled Poland with his family during World War II and spent much of his childhood living in Africa. Before arriving in Africa he suffered an injury that permanently damaged his right arm and forced him to learn to draw with his left hand. Stanczak studied art in London before coming to America, where he eventually settled in Ohio.
Stanczak draws inspiration from his love of music as well as from his impressions of the environment around him. These elements of his painting help to create an intrinsic energy. In Lifting, the rows of ordered lines suggest an upward motion, encouraging the viewer’s eye to follow that natural movement.
