Subject Matter:
Zhang Chonghe (1914–2015) was a multi-talented individual known as a Chinese-American poet, calligrapher, educator, and Kunqu opera singer. Revered as "the last talented woman of the Republic of China," Zhang married Hans Fränkel in November 1948 in Beijing and later established residence in the United States in January 1949. Throughout her illustrious career, Zhang taught traditional Chinese culture at prestigious institutions such as Yale University, Harvard University, and 20 other universities.

凤凰好,山水乐无涯。文藻风流足千古,苗家人是一枝花,此处最宜家。
苗裔 陈满妹 殷殷相待
凤凰好,老幼喜洋洋。休道物华今胜古,古城中有古心肠,此处最难忘。
陈久经先生云此间物质条件差故有此作
凤凰好,主雅客心闲。湘黔古道黄泥坂,迎送殷勤山外山,苗曲当阳关。
田君时烈迎自淮化复送至遵义一路即景高歌苗曲
凤凰好,沈墓面沱江。更喜在山泉一脉,路人来止饮清凉,相对话麻桑。
沈从文曾云一生写作得力于水可谓葬得其所矣
凤凰好,渡口暮栖鸦。忽听爷爷呼翠翠,一时诗画幻奇霞,何处笔生花。

The text comprises five poems penned by Zhang Chonghe herself, titled “On Fenghuang Shen Congwen Tomb.” Shen is Zhang’s brother-in-law.
This work is dedicated to Fenghua and Ding Jian, written in 1934.

A framed page of calligraphy with nine red seals throughout the text.
This work is composed in small regular script. The relatively larger script features five poems written by Zhang Chonghe herself, collectively titled "On Fenghuang Shen Congwen Tomb."
The smaller script within the poems consists of annotations for each poem, providing insights into the motivations behind their creation.
