Subject Matter:
The central image in this etching, but in reverse, is featured in one of Bishop's best known paintings. Bishop's recurring fascination with the daily lives of young women in New York is explored in this image through the institution of the lunch counter. The women are clearly working women; this is not a leisurely lunch. Instead their consumption of food is expressed as vital. The detached poses of the figures reinforces this notion.

This etching contains two standing women at a counter. The woman on the right drinks while the woman on the left eats. They both have hats on; the woman on the right wears high heels, a knee-length skirt, and a petticoat.
