Description

Subject Matter:

​The theme of this Mina'i ware bowl decoration features two confronting riders and a central tree. The central motif is enclosed by a Kufic band of inscription which repeats the word "the Truth". This repition of "the Truth" was amongst other common messages employed in late twelfth and early thirteeth century Mina'i wares. Similar, and even almost identical bowls have been preserved and researched in the field of late Islamic pottery.

Physical Description:

This Mina'i ware bowl profile fragment features painting in blue, black, white, green, and red over turquoise glaze. Two confronted horesman and conventionalized inscriptions near the rim are the main decorative features.
