Description

Subject Matter:

This photograph depicts the former Miners' Union Hall in Bodie, California, once an important structure in the now-abandoned gold town. Tice's representation of the Hall honors the elegant simplicity and historical significance of the building by positioning it imposingly against the cloudless sky. Yet the image also highlights the town's demise, from the broken windows of the Union Hall to the detritus and dilapidated wagon alongside the building. One of twelve prints that comprise the Bodie portfolio, the Miners' Union Hall emblematizes the professional identity of this once thriving community.

Physical Description:

Photograph of a square-shaped wooden building with broken windows and a wagon alongside it.
