Description

Subject Matter:

Paul Rand designed this poster for the Department of the Interior to advertise the Minuteman National Historical Park, which commemorates the site of the first battle of the Revolutionary War. Rand merges the historical and modern through collage, which includes of text and image. The stacking of the sans serif text is emblematic of a Rand’s modernist aesthetic, but the inclusion of an iconic image links the text with a familiar symbol of American bravery.
