Subject Matter:
Lombard summered in Monhegan, Maine and developed much of his aesthetic and subject matter there. Monhegan was a well known artist colony that had existed since the mid-nineteenth century. Lombard plays with texture in this image, the viewer is left with a distinct impression of the feeling of the harsh pine tree versus the soft grass of the hill.
