Description

Subject Matter:

Lombard summered in Monhegan, Maine and developed much of his aesthetic and subject matter there. Monhegan was a well known artist colony that had existed since the mid-nineteenth century. Lombard chooses to very precisely depict the trees, but is more restrained in his treatment of the grass and sky. This contrast allows the trees to take centerstage. Lombard wants to have a distinct subject rather than a complete scene.
