Description

Subject Matter:

This photograph of Nazareth, the capital of Israel, depicts the city as a diagonal strip of white buildings that bisect the hill in the foreground and the landscape in the deeply recessing background. The foreground grasses and shrubs form a dark, triangular mass in the lower right corner of the image, which strongly contrasts with the pale houses of the city and the hazy hills and landscape in the distance. Frith frequently employed compositional strategies such as these to draw the viewer's eye through the image.

Physical Description:

View of a village set in a valley surrounded by several low-rising hills, all of which is seen from an elevated perspective from a hill in the foreground of the image.
