Nazareth; vue prise de la route de Cana – Nazareth from the road to Cana
Felix Bonfils
Description
Subject Matter:
This photograph presents a general view of Nazareth under a clear sky. The viewer takes up a position on a nearby hill, which allows for a semi-panoramic vista-view. The town follows the gradual incline of the hills onto which it is built. The buildings appear mostly modest and simple, constructed either out of brick or pale stone and lacking in ornament. This image is one of hundreds of photographs made throughout Bonfils's career which purport to document various landscapes, cityscapes, and people of the eastern Mediterranean.
Physical Description:
This photograph depicts a large town nestled into a group of hills as viewed from above. The horizon line is fairly high, allowing for a thin strip of clear sky.
