New York, from “Master Prints Volume II”
Elliott Erwitt
Description
A master of the witty visual pun, Erwitt presents humorous views of the world that are heightened by his mastery of framing. Nowhere does that sharp eye for humor and sure composition come together more masterfully than in this image taken in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. A series of gallery entrances recedes from the viewer as a statue of the goddess Diana appears to take aim at a man in the distance. The solemnity of the setting heightens the humorous posing of the two figures.
