Subject Matter:
Hassam was an American Impressionist who was influenced by French Impressionism, specifically by Claude Monet, while studying in Paris from 1886 to 1889. Hassam captured urban life, often depicting Paris, New York, and Boston in his early work--although he also portrayed picturesque scenes of the countryside such as this. Hassam began to focus on printmaking in 1915, and began producing lithographs in 1917.

This black and white print shows the back of a nude woman. She appears to be facing a hedge or tall bushes and is standing with her arms are raised and folded at her chest.
