Description

Subject Matter:

Marilyn Bridges describes the markings and monuments that she photographs from above as “the messages of humankind.” As a pilot and photographer, she documents contemporary landscapes connected to ancient times, which addresses the human relationship to the earth and environment. In this photograph, Bridges frames a valley with limestone sinkholes terraced by the Incas above the Urubamba Valley in Peru. This archaeological site has three pits which have been carved out of the earth with depths of up to 100 feet and more.
