Description

Subject Matter:

This photograph depicts a view of the Botanical Garden in Palermo’s city center. The photograph affords a splendid display of various species of aloe plants, acaules, and palm trees; their spiny, pointed fronds form a richly textured canopy. Running down the center of the composition, a path cuts through the garden and meets what appears to be a greenhouse. The ground of the pathway is dappled with light filtering through the trees’ foillage. To the right of the walkway seated on a stone bench is a young man in a dark suit. Legs crossed and sporting a beard and a short brimmed hat, the man looks coolly towards the photographer. Behind him along the low wall of the garden sits a row of potted plants.
