Subject Matter:
Kobayashi Bunshichi published Katsushika Hokusai's biography and owned many of his works. Hokusai had a series of works where he depicted the beauties of Japan in different social classes. This painting done by Kobayashi Bunshichi could be a homage to Hokusai's work as many famous Japanese works featured aristocracy.
Physical Description:
This print depicts a peasant woman. She wears colorful yet tattered clothes and has a cloth on her head that she also appears to be chewing on. She holds a basket in her right hand and a pole in her left. There are two lines of vertical inscriptions in the bottom left. Following the writing is a red seal.
