Phoenix Series #7
Peter Schlech
Description
After a 30-year career as a designer and builder of yacht interiors, Peter Schlech attended an exhibition of fine wood art and was so inspired by the beautiful and unrestricted forms he saw there that he decided to take his career in a new direction.
As a boat builder, Schelch enjoyed the challenges of constructing large, curvilinear structures; however, his career lacked the freedom of design and boundless range of expression which he so desired. In Phoenix Series #7, Schlech uses a special technique of molding laminated wood into a sculptural form. This technique allows him to give his work a balance between the rigid formality of straight lined forms and the amorphous quality of organic forms.
