Description

Subject Matter:

The practice of making linoleum cut prints was taken up by Picasso towards the end of his career, primarily in the late 50s and early 60s. As in this work, Picasso used the medium to further explore popular themes from his ouevre, such as the bullfight. This print presents a picador, an assistant to the matador, on his horse preparing for a bullfight.

Physical Description:

This horizontal print is taken up almost entirely by a profile view of a standing horse with a rider. Another figure stands behind the horse along the right edge of the image. The figures are black and beige. There are abstracted forms and lines in black and beige along the top edge and left side of the image. The background is brown.
