Description

Subject Matter:

Traditional Korean pillows vary in their form, use, and materials-- the distinct features of a pillow often allude to its specific use. Begaetmo --a pillow's side panels-- are often regarded as the pillow's most distinct feature since they are often adorned with embroidery, pearls, ceramics, or lacquer. Embroidered designs were often colorful and would depict cultural motifs-- for example, peonies often represented a wish for prosperity. This pillow has a more modern structure, and its square panels hint that it was used by women because men's pillows often had round panels.

Physical Description:

Wood rectangular pillow covered in white cotton slip with embroidered flowers on the end. The base is green with a geometric border and embroidered pink, purple, and white flowers.
