Description

Ernst produced over 500 prints in various media, many of which were created as frontispieces or illustrations to his own books, as well as those by other authors. This lithograph, printed by Pierre Chave and published by Jean Hugues in Paris, appeared as the frontispiece in a book by Kurt Schwitters, Auguste Bolte. Using frottage as he had done in his lithograph Dancers, Ernst creates a whimsical figure, an automaton composed of elements taken from various materials.
