Portrait of Rodin
Gertrude Käsebier

Subject Matter:
This is a portrait of Auguste Rodin at his studio in Meudon. Käsebier referred to Rodin as one of the most restless of her subjects and considered her portraits of him among her greatest accomplishments. In this photograph, Rodin, in his smock, has his head lowered and his hand resting on a sculpture bust, giving a meditative quality to the image. Käsebier sought to understand Rodin through photographing him.
