Print No. 8 from ‘Album 13’
Joan Miró
Description
The year 1948 marked Miró’s professional association with gallerist Aimé Maeght. Among book illustrations Miró undertook with the support of the Galerie Maeght was Album 13, a suite of lithographs printed by Mourlot. For this project the artist restricted himself to the color black, as if to challenge himself to extract what was possible from the technique. The lithographs are freely drawn, and the forms suggest a spontaneous mutation, with shapes metamorphosing from formless blobs to signs of the human figure and back again.
