Prisme I
Nicolas Schöffer

Description
Subject Matter:
Prisme I is an abstract, two dimensional print that creates a prismatic effect of multiple planes or dimensions. Grey, white, and blue rectangles collide and dark horizontal and vertical lines split the image up. Schöffer began making Constructivist sculptures in 1948 and carried the style into prints like Prisme I. He considered these works to illustrate "spatiodynamism" which is an intersection of space and dynamism. He was born in Hungary but was most active in Paris.
Physical Description:
An abstract arrangement of geometric shapes that creates the prismatic optical illusion of multiple planes or dimensions.
